Kate Turner, British (1982-)

Artist's Biography

Is a figurative artist based in Liverpool and London. She studied for three years at the Heatherley School of Fine Art where she attained both a Diploma and Post-Diploma in Portraiture. Her self-portrait was awarded the prize for the best painting in the Heatherley’s summer show(2008). Kate has also exhibited with the Royal Society of Portrait Painters in their annual exhibition at the Mall Galleries, London (2009).

Since graduating Kate has been working as a professional portrait painter and has undertaken several private commissions. She works predominantly in oils and only works from life, requiring multiple sittings to produce the final work. Kate is very interested in conveying three-dimensional structure through carefully observed shifts in colour. Although heavily influenced by painters of the London School such as Euan Uglow and Patrick George her work tends to be quite highly coloured, unable to resist putting down some of the intense colours that appear over the course of observing the figure.

In addition to painting Kate is a keen printmaker and draughtswoman.
