Michael Kidd (RONA Group), British (1937-)

Artist's Biography

Born in London in 1937, Michael Kidd studied at the Royal College of Art in the late 1950’s. Fellow pupils included the now-renowned film director Ridley Scott and the

painter David Hockney, both of whom made a strong impression on him. He went on to become an award-winning television commercials maker but returned to painting in 1981. Since then he has devoted all his time to painting. He has become appreciated for his ability to evoke the sometimes disquieting and surreal essence of a particular place.

The Rona Group of Artists evolved from the RONA Gallery in Mayfair (1985-2009). During the period 1998 - 2009 Michael Kidd showed regularly with the group and had his own one man shows. In 1998 (English Gardens); 2000 (Genius of the Place); 2002 (Pauillac, Chateaux and Vineyards); 2005 (Michael Kidd in New York); 2007 (Great Gardens Revisited).
