Artist's Biography
Sophie was born in Paris in 1980 and spent her childhood there. She cites her early childhood memories of Paris as invaluable to her current practice. Qualities of nostalgia, memory and the passage of time are embodied within her works.
Sophie paints intuitively from her imagination, allowing the process of painting to guide her. She occasionally uses reference material from found photographs and the media.
Fairy tales re-interpreted in a noir-ish light and exaggerated aspects of the human state such as exuberance, fury and melancholy suggest themselves in her paintings.
She graduated from the Slade School of Fine Art in 2007 specialising in painting and has an MA in Visual Arts from the University of Sussex.
